  • First Night Star Trails

    First Night Star Trails

Star trails from a composite of 30-second exposures shot on a Canon Rebel T6i the night of May 17, 2022. The vantage point was just past Intersection Rock on the Keys Ranch Road, and the camera was set at ISO 3200 and f/5.6.

  • Second Night Star Trails

    Second Night Star Trails

Star trails from a composite of 30-second exposures shot on a Canon Rebel T6i the night of May 18, 2022. The vantage point was just north of the Jumbo Rocks campsite turnoff (which was also the source of the red light) on Park Boulevard, and the camera was set at ISO 3200 and f/5.6.

  • Spinning Sky

    Spinning Sky

Star trails in the northerns sky from Joshua Tree NP. This is a composite of 60 25-second exposures.

  • Just a bit of Taurus

    Just a bit of Taurus

One of the later singles from the night's star-trail composites, this 25-second exposure still includes Cepheus, Cassiopeia and Andromeda, and but now includes part of Taurus rising above the horizon.

  • Stars

    Stars

A single from the star-trail composites made from that night. This is a single 25-second exposure looking roughly northeast, with the constellations Cepheus, Cassiopeia and Andromeda visible.

  • The Earlier Universe

    The Earlier Universe

Though processed and posted later, this was the first of the two star trails I shot that night. [60 25-second exposures at f/5.6 and ISO 3200] Kind of impressed with the strict adherence to the flight patterns, but unsure what the horizontal line of red dots represents, especially the gap in the middle. It didn't go dark and I didn't skip an image. It just jumped forward (right/east) from one image to the next. A short hyperspace jump though, if confirmed, would corroborate my theory that the other streaks aren't airplane lights but a Tholian web being covered up by the Men In Black.

    The Universe

The Park is certainly amazing, but then the sun goes down and you look up at the sky... [A composite of 60 25-second exposures at f/4.5 and ISO 3200]

  • Chimney Rock Star Trails

    Chimney Rock Star Trails

There's a separate single image of Chimney Rock at night posted here, but with the chance to work on the composite some more I really like this version too.

  • Motion at Night

    Motion at Night

Startrails looking east from near Red Rock State Park in Sedona, Cathedral Rock is visible in the lower right. Image is a composite of about thirty 30-second exposures.

  • Chimney Rock at Night

    Chimney Rock at Night

I set up here thinking it was a quiet place, but the vehicle traffic was enough that I wasn't able to pull off enough consecutive shots for star trails. Transiting aircraft made for some interesting touches though.

    Motion

Even in Sedona, everything is always moving. This is a composite of 30-second exposures taken from the vista point at the Sedona Airport.
